pink and gray tween bedroom makeover

Kids grow up so fast, don’t they?

One second you’re watching Elmo and reading Goodnight Moon together. Then you blink and they’re into fashion, sports, and making silly 10-second music videos on their phones!

My daughter is turning 11 soon, and as part of her birthday gift, I recently re-decorated her room to lose some of the baby-ish elements. She wanted to keep a similar grey, beige, and pink color palette, so today I’m sharing how we accomplished a fun bedroom refresh perfect for my tween girl.

pink and white girls room with ruffle bedding

BEFORE: She’s has had the same furniture, bedding, and accessories since the age of three.

This little antique bed (above) was low to the ground and perfect for a little one. I even had framed her first tutu on the wall. This room is pretty small, so I kept it pretty simple. The diamond shaped accent wall was a DIY project I accomplished one weekend years ago that required painter’s tape and tons of patience!

AFTER: I added a bigger bed and a desk for homework.

I’m not personally a fan of placing a bed in the corner, but it makes sense as it actually creates more space in the center of her room. This beautiful iron bed was mine as a child, and my sweet Grammy’s as a kid before that. My parents saved it for me, and it’s now Lily’s, which is super meaningful. ❤️

white computer desk and farmhouse chair

This pretty white sawhorse style computer desk is from Amazon.com and was easy to put together. The blue metal chair is from a local store called DownEast Home (here are similar ones on Amazon.com). Both the pink and white Pillowfort striped curtains and Pillowfort shag rug are from Target.

hanging faux planters from tjmaxx

One request from my daughter was for trendy faux succulents. I found these hanging faux pots in-store from TJMaxx, and I think that added a fun grown up element. TJMaxx.com actually has some very similar hanging faux plants on their site, too! I love their affordable price point of $13-$17!

lauren conrad comforter set from kohls.com

I love this bedding so much!

She picked out this pretty solid blue braided bedding from the Lauren Conrad collection at Kohl’s and I love the soft texture and feminine look of it. We also picked up the sweet white eyelet bed skirt at Kohl’s, too. You can find this adorable square floral pillow at Bed Bath & Beyond as part of their new Bee & Willow Home collection.

Because every room needs a fantastic throw blanket, we splurged on this super high-quality pink pom pom blanket from ApolloBox.com. I love how it pulls the bedding together and adds such great texture and interest.

boho style wall art girls room

New wall art was a must!

The little framed tutu wasn’t cutting it for an 11-year-old, so I visited my favorite HomeGoods and found the trendy macrame hanging piece and framed dream catcher print on clearance for around $30 for both. Here’s a similar boho style woven wall hanging via Amazon.

decorating a girls tween room boho style

The abstract painting in the middle was less than $15 at Ross. I think it pairs so well with the other two pieces! Finally, the IKEA picture ledges above the bed are so perfect for displaying favorite framed photos and books. No IKEA nearby? Here are similar picture ledges on Amazon. We kept that element in her room as she can just change out the contents as desired.

tween room makeover from the doorway

My goal was to design a more grown-up room, while still keeping it girly!

Lily is such a fun kid with so much personality and style, and I feel like this room reflects her so well. She loves having her friends over in this space, and it’s also super functional for doing homework. We enjoyed completing this project together, and I had a blast incorporating her input along the way as well.

Oh I’ll research that! The beige was already here when we moved and I added that pink. I’ll get back to ya! Thanks so much!

Super cute ideas! The room looks great! We just redid my tween daughter’s room also in coral/grey/aqua theme. She loves it and as you said, it “updates” the space to make it more age appropriate 🙂
