The Big Green Egg vs Char-Griller AKORN Jr:

egg-shaped grills

Either of these grills would bring the heat at your next cookout!

That said, a Big Green Egg will run you anywhere from $600 for a travel-sized grill all the way up to $1,200+ for an extra large grill. 😱 Plus, you can only buy these at select retailers in-store, there’s no convenience of ordering it and having it shipped to your door. That’s enough to make your plans go up in smoke!

I discovered this highly-rated grill on Amazon, and starting at right around $158, you can enjoy one in your own backyard! Compared to the Big Green Egg, the cooking surface (153 sq. in.) for this grill is between a medium- and small-sized grill, which means you’ll be saving between $500 and $700 by choosing the knockoff.

I can already smell the food cooking with savings like that! 🤤 Aside from the amazing price differences, here are some other reasons why I love the Char-Griller AKORN Jr. grill:

  • It’s portable – Take it on your next adventure camping, RVing, or tailgating.
  • Dual air-flow dampers – Maintain airflow and precise heat control.
  • Triple wall steel – It’s insulated and built to last, so your grilling experience is exceptional.
  • It uses less charcoal – Use less than the average grill for excellent flavor.
  • Easy dump ash pan – Enjoy fast and easy clean up when grilling.
  • Comes in two colors – If red isn’t your thing, you can order black, too!

sliced grilled steak

“Wonderful grill! I am able to reach over 700° with just 12 coals. It’s insane how quickly it can cook. I was able to cook a thin cut steak in three minutes, about a minute and a half on each side. It’s portable enough to carry around a deck with one person and I love using it! Awesome grill!

“This is the best charcoal grill I’ve ever used! And believe me, I’ve used many over the years! First off, the manufacturing and engineering are outstanding. When it comes to assembly, everything fits PERFECTLY. The fit and finish are actually quite remarkable and precise; I didn’t expect this level of quality with such an inexpensive grill.

As far as cooking goes – all I can say is ‘WOW’! From a slow smoke/roast to a searing heat, this grill does it all extremely well. One of the first things I roasted/grilled was chicken thighs. I placed them around the outside edge of the grate (it held 8 large thighs perfectly). I kept the temperature (easy to do) at about 275°. After 45 minutes, every single one was perfectly, evenly browned to a light mahogany color. (I flipped them over after about 1/2 hour into the cooking time). Not one was burned, and not one was underdone. Apparently, the shape of this thing makes it work like a convection oven, giving even, consistent results. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase!”

I know we paid a crazy amount of money but if you really want a grill like this check out the Monolith. There is only one vendor in the US for it…you can find it at the BBQGURU.com. They delivered right to our house and customer service has been fantastic! They even called us a few hours after delivery to make sure all was well. It was fairly pricey…I think all said and done it was like $1,400 but it literally came with everything you could ever need. We have been VERY happy with this grill. When my husband first asked for it I thought he was crazy…then I looked into it and realized the monolith is likely going to last us 20+yrs….it’s an investment and hopefully I won’t be buying us a new grill until retirement:)
